‘I want that knife’

This
summer,  i did not only have a close encounter with my kitchen…i had
special moments in it as well, creating a special bond with my utensils
especially my all time favorite- my sister’s petite (2.5
inches), multi-purpose knife!

Admittedly,
this is just a borrowed knife from my sister Angie( until my sister
noticed that i didnt return it since the day i borrowed it so
eventually she gave it to me-thanks, Sis). I love this knife since it’s
light, handy, shiny and rather sharp…and it has  many uses- slicer of
veggies and fruits of all sort, plastic cutter, can-opener, lifter/
potholder, and best of all- i use it to switch my stove on and off.

My
hubby is rather uncomfortable seeing me and my multi-purpose kitchen
knife do ‘wonders’ in the kitchen. In fact, he is wondering why i keep
using this knife instead of the utensils (he bought) purposely invented
for the job. Call it  a habit or just slothfulness? (ouch, that’s too
blunt)

The
truth is, everytime i start working in the kitchen, the knife is the
first object that catches my attention, first because of its
glimmer and second, it’s easy to reach, very much available whenever i
need a job immediately done.

As i was reflecting on my kitchen experience, i recalled a particular scripture in the Bible about utensils: 2 Timothy 2:20-21(NLT) : In
a wealthy home, some utensils are made of gold and silver and some are
made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special
occasions and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself
pure,  you can be a utensil God can use for His purpose. Your life will
be clean and  you will be ready for the Master to use you for every
good work.

I
know most mothers would agree with  me when i say that  most of the
time we have devoted in our kitchen life is making sure that
the kitchen area  is clean and safe from uninvited guests. We prepare
food with utmost care and the utensils we use are carefully selected
and thoroughly cleaned especially that we want the best for our loved
ones.. Thus, the need to wash our utensils every now and then. Like a
bolt of lightning, it dawned on me that Our Master has the
same ‘heart’  for us. He wants us to continually live a life worthy of
HIM and please Him in everyway, bearing fruit in every good work.
(Colossians 1:9) It made sense why the Scripture repeatedly emphasized
the words BE HOLY.. He wants us, His dearly beloved people  to get rid
of anything which will make us dirty and unworthy. He wants to USE you
and me for a greater, nobler purpose.
